Please reach us at info@luckenboothpress.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Luckenbooth Press publishes creative non-fiction books in the areas of personal growth, self-help, how-to, wellness, health and empowerment. Genres which we do not support include: children's books, YA (young adult), fiction (novels or historical novels), mystery, horror, thriller and true crime, science fiction, romance, fantasy, graphic novels, bioography, poetry, short stories as well as specialty books such as art and photography or home design, food and drink.
The first step is to use our Contact Us form to submit your name, contact information including email, the genre of book you want to publish and (3) examples/links of your previously published writing. Once we have verified you as a potential author, we will provide you with a link to submit your proposed manuscript. Please make sure to follow the guidelines provided on the submission form. Also, note that if you do not receive an email from us to submit your manuscript within 30 days after sending your Contact information, then you have not met our author criteria. Once you submit your manuscript, it is still not a guarantee we will be your publishing partner. We do not publish every manuscript submitted. Our editorial team reviews the manuscript and decides if it fits within our published author library of titles.
Blog writing does not meet our criteria of being a published author. Bylines for online news or lifestyle sites are accepted. For authors who have previously self-published through a vanity press, we require at least two other published writing samples to meet our author criteria.
Yes, Luckenbooth Press offers professional editing and proofreading services for authors who have already published their work or are in the final stages of preparation.
If your manuscript is approved by Luckenbooth Press, there is a nominal fee for the professional editing, interior and cover design, printing and distribution support, eBook conversions and marketing plan recommendations as well as securing ISBN and Library of Congress numbers. Some additional fees or access to experts who can provide certain services, such as publicists or audio book talent, are additional costs to the author. Once accepted as an author, you will be able to view our pricing and discuss details with your assigned Book Representative.
With traditional publishers, including all the imprints owned by large publishers such as Simon & Schuster, Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, etc., you cannot submit a manuscript without a book agent or representative who does business with those publishers. Also, it can take years to get your book accepted and published and many authors, particularly of non-fiction do not want to wait that long to get published.
With a hybrid publisher, you maintain creative control over your book including how fast you get published. We will work with you to strategize on your book title, interior and cover designs and book flow for optimal reading. You can accept our recommendations or not as well as provide your own design files. Luckenbooth Press staff all have experience working for traditional publishers so we guide our authors to optimize their book publication but we do not control the creative vision. We also offer a global network of printers and distribution channels of booksellers. And, we have expert marketing teams who will help you devise a plan, recommend timing of your book publication and provide those services if needed (you may pay additional service fees over the nominal editing, design and printing/distribution fee).
While authors pay a nominal fee for the expert team support to get your book ready for publication and onto bookshelves or into online booksellers, authors also realize higher royalty payments than with traditional publishers.
Vanity presses, such as Author Solutions, Kobo, Reedsy, Lulu and Kindle Direct Publishing (Amazon), accept any writer with a manuscript. You do not need to be a previously published writer or author. Many of these companies will provide guidance and help with design, printing and distribution of your book but fees are typically higher than with a hybird publisher and quality may not meet certain book publishing standards.
